Welcome to the wedding blog by Blue Orchid Designs! My name is Liene (and in case you're wondering, it's pronounced Lynn) and I am the CEO of Blue Orchid Designs, a wedding planning firm with consultants in Arizona, New York, and Washington DC. I am also the founder of Splendid Communications, an online media consultancy serving the wedding and event industries. Some of my favorite things include candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach. Oops, sorry! Wrong intro.
In all seriousness, we're glad you've stopped by our blog! We love weddings. We love people. And we really love pretty things. So we dish about all of the above here at the Blue Orchid Designs blog. Our blogging style is direct, pragmatic and fun. If the dress isn't your most flattering style, we'll tell you. We'll also be the ones wearing waterproof mascara on your wedding day because chances are very high that we will mist up when you walk down that aisle. So, pour yourself your favorite beverage and come join us! We are just a little bit addicting, if we do say so ourselves.

Picture this: you are taking a stroll down memory lane by flipping through your wedding album. Your planner did a knockout job getting all the details just so and your photographer did an amazing job of capturing them all. And then you see your dress - your beautiful dress that took you countless hours and stores to find - and as soon as you tried it on, you knew it was "the one", probably the second most important wedding decision you made (the first being the groom of course). The dress is gorgeous and you looked radiant in it and the photographer was able to get a shot of it hanging by itself in the glow of the sunlight. But wait - what are these memories hanging from? A cheap plastic hanger that looks like it just came from the drycleaner's bin. Kind of kills the romantic image, doesn't it?
There are lots of hangers on the market, and even a quick stop into Target will provide you with some that are a lot more photogenic than the one that your dress comes with. A wooden hanger has a classic and timeless look, while the padded ones add a bit of whimsy. Make sure to purchase some with grooves or beads so that the dress doesn't slide right off.
If you're a planner or photographer, bring a nice hanger for your client on the day of the wedding. They will be impressed with your thoughtfulness and attention to detail, which goes a long way for word of mouth. If you're a bride or bridesmaid, be sure to add it to your list of things to bring with you when you're getting ready. Your pictures will thank you.

thanks for such a great reminder.
That is so true... and sometimes you dont think about little details like that...
why not give your bridemaids each a beautiful hanger so that they too can treat their dress with r.e.s.p.e.c.t :)
What an AWESOME idea! As a planner I would've never thought about that but you're right -- you can immediately see it in the photos when the hanger looks cheap. I'll stash a nice one in my car and pull it out for emergencies. Thanks, Liene!
You. Are. Brilliant. Thanks for the tip! Love your blog by the way.
Hey Liene. Thank you for reminding me that I need to get on the ball with this one! You are the queen of finding things that I cannot!
good thing you pointed this out....i never would have even thought of it. my dress would probably just be a lump on the floor.
Soooo very true and who thinks of that...until they see the pics with the ugly "Mommy Dearest" wire hanger! Ashley or myweddingsecretary.com
Yup, it's a pain seeing tacky hangers when I arrive on location.
