5 winter's arrival

pride and prejudice

The weather is cooling down a bit around here, and by cooling down, I mean that I wore leggings with a short-sleeved dress and peep-toe shoes the other evening. Winter brings with it some of my favorite things - warm and delicious beverages, pretty scarves (again, no real need for them here, but they are just too darn cute not to wear), cozy dinner parties with friends, and of course, girly movies. I don't know about you, but for me romantic comedies are a decidedly winter event.

My friend Melissa and I watched the latest version of Pride and Prejudice the other night and I was instantly smitten with Mr. Darcy. I have to confess that I had never seen the previous versions of the film all the way through because my attention span does not allow for four-hour long movies. While I was watching, I remembered another favorite movie, You've Got Mail, in which Meg Ryan's character gushes about the same Mr. Darcy and Tom Hanks' character can barely get through the book. Another movie to watch with a cup of hot cocoa or a glass of wine. Or both.

So I am curious - what marks the turn of winter for you? (Besides the leaves changing colors - because we don't get that here either.) And what girly movie is your favorite?

I share in your sentiments of a colorless Fall/Winter- as I am here in Sunny Florida. However, I can finally feel the Fall- Here it means a little less humidity... layers of clothing, sneak peaks of a jacket here and there... the smell of burning leaves- and pumpkin everywhere! I love seeing it on all my favorite menus.... As for my favorite girlie movie--- I am an Audrey kind of gal- Breakfast at Tiffany's/Sobrina.... and on a really long and rainy day- I LOVE to snuggle up with "The Last Time I Saw Paris"

In my former life, I was a New England girl, so fall/winter for me was the smell of wet leaves and crisp cool mornings on the deck, layers of clothing in rich earth tones and simple soup and sandwiches for dinner.

I still look for those sights and smells here in Phoenix even if I have to wait until almost December for them! :)

"Working Girl" with Melanie Griffith is one of my favorites on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Oh, I live in Vancouver, BC, so it's FREEZING here already. Fall is marked by the wearing of a winter coat, boots to keep my toes warm, scarves, mittens, the arrival of Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks, and (my favourite!) fires in the fireplace at home.

I think of hot chocolate, candy apples, and scarves. I have to have a scarf in every color to match every jacket!

When they start serving pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks...:)

Oh, and my fav girly movie is the Notebook, although I have to say my husband loves it too.

I saw you on the TTD forum and wanted to check out your blog. I'm in AZ too.
