Welcome to the wedding blog of Blue Orchid Designs! My name is Liene (and in case you're wondering, it's pronounced Lynn) and I am the CEO of Blue Orchid Designs, a wedding planning firm with consultants in Arizona, New York, and Washington DC. I am also the founder of Splendid Communications, an online media consultancy serving the wedding and event industries. Some of my favorite things include candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach. Oops, sorry! Wrong intro.
In all seriousness, we're glad you've stopped by our blog! We love weddings. We love people. And we really love pretty things. So we dish about all of the above here at the Blue Orchid Designs blog. Our blogging style is direct, pragmatic and fun. If the dress isn't your most flattering style, we'll tell you. We'll also be the ones wearing waterproof mascara on your wedding day because chances are very high that we will mist up when you walk down that aisle. So, pour yourself your favorite beverage and come join us! We are just a little bit addicting, if we do say so ourselves.

Last month my friend Kim from Parisian Events wrote about the latest in French fashion, the black wedding dress. Yes, black. You can read more about it out here.
Naturally, the fresh content from her post was a hit and soon after, several other bloggers were writing about it too. This isn't a problem - blogs, especially wedding blogs, thrive on bringing you the latest in trends and styles. And a black wedding dress? Well that just goes against so much tradition that people just had to share it with the world.
The problem, however, is that several bloggers simply copied and pasted her article and failed to give her credit. Seriously, her post has been popping up all over the place, verbatim, with no link back to her. And yes, deleting one sentence is still considered plagiarism. I am not sharing which blogs plagiarized because I do not feel they deserve the extra traffic.
Here is the skinny on blogging etiquette in this arena (and this is nothing new): If someone has written about an idea that you love, some new bridal shoes that you absolutely adore, a pair of earrings that are sure to be gracing every bride's lobes in 2008, then by all means blog about it. Just be sure to give credit to the original source.
The blogging community is a lot smaller than people think, especially in a niche market like weddings. Blog responsibly.

Great post! This should definitely be known.
Being new to the blogging world, I was worried about this too. My journalism teacher made it clear about sources, but I was so worried about even linking to another blog, that it took me a while to get going. Coincidentally, I added your link (and credit!) to my original post about cake advice.
Boo! Good job on not linking, even though I'd love to know who they are so I don't read them. :-)
I have to give you mucho kudos for this post. I especially love the last part "Blog responsibly."
Ah, this is a great post. I just had a planner blow up on me because I posted photos from an event of hers, but I had permission from the photog and of course I credited the photog! Sometimes it gets tricky on images--esp. since I randomly google them, and they haven't been properly credited where I find them, but I always try and credit the correct source. Thanks for reminding everyone, though! :)
I just wanted to comment on the black wedding dress- I am working on a client right now who is going to have a black gown. I love it- dare to be different, ladies!
Awesome post and very well said!!
NICE!
you're so right on for this one...i was scanning around a couple of blogs and found a few things i had written, including my own INSPIRATION BOARD posted on another site with no credit. its so frustrating...i always make sure to try and give credit where credit is due.
I love your dresses!!!
:)
