Earlier this year, one of our readers, Lisa, asked us for advice on scheduling her wedding day to accommodate her hair and makeup appointments. I told her to pad her timeline because time would fly by faster than she could anticipate.
Lisa tied the knot at the end of June and here's what she had to say about how that advice worked out in real life. She's also shared some photos from her day - I think her updo held up quite beautifully, wouldn't you agree?

Dear Liene,
I wrote you for some advice about timing for our wedding day. Well, the date has come and gone, and I can't say how helpful (and how right!) you had been. You advised leaving significant padding in the schedule and it turned out to be much needed.

To make a long story short, my husband and I had planned to change into mandarin outfits during our reception in order to acknowledge my culture. When we arrived at the site the afternoon of the wedding, Daniel realized that he left his Mandarin outfit at home! The padding in the schedule allowed his brother to drive the hour and a half round-trip to retrieve the garment while we took our formals. He arrived back just as we were to start the ceremony!

The wedding itself was lovely. The hour leading up to the ceremony itself was rather stressful, given that the forecast said rain (and the dark skies said rain, too) but we very much wanted to have the ceremony outside. The Italian garden at the Codman Estate, where we held the event, is a dream in good weather.

In the end, the weather held out (though the photos attest to how overcast it was). And though many of our guests had to stand on very, very soggy ground (the site manager would not agree to setting up chairs outside) everything was perfectly lovely and very memorable. We had some wedding crashers from the farm next door to the estate: some renegade goats arrived just in time for the hors d'oeuvres!

I was really magnificently happy with all that was important on that day. Again, my thanks for your advice.

Excellent advice!! Not enough cushion time is a problem we have deifnitely run into!
Hi Liene! What a lovely event to share. Love, love, love the bride's dress! Great advice btw! xoxo, Lisa
Great advice - something always comes up that makes that little bit of time you've entered into your timline SO valuable!
Daniela
How nice of you to post our photos, Liene. The dress, by the way, was not at all what I had expected to select (nor is it what is currently "in fashion"), but it fit perfectly the romantic feel of the garden. (The designer is Vera Wang.) Best, Lisa
