Angel - She is entitled to laugh out loud, and I have too when I hear vendors promising to be wedding coordinators in addition to their job. It entails a lot more than just ensuring the timeline is being followed. If a consultant told her clients that she would also DJ their wedding, you would probably laugh out loud as well, because you know that so much more goes into your job than just what the client and guests see and that the consultant is not qualified or is spreading herself too thin by trying to be a jack of all trades.

I am a DJ that makes the exact offer you almost laughed out-loud about. Although you wanted to laugh in that DJ's face, the reality is that it probably would not have been such a bad move given that both professions are timeline driven. The services of event coordination at the reception are now being offered by DJs for brides that are looking to get old aunt betty up on the dance floor, but also want to make sure they don't have to worry about when the the first dance or cake cutting will be announced.

The reality is that there are some vendors in each of our professions that are unethical and make false or empty promises. The ones that stand out are those that deliver and or exceed on their promise such as Cicely did with her landslide wedding story.

In my opinion, any one in the service industry with a commitment to their customer that has been contracted to perform a service must do all they possibly can to fulfill that contract. In other words, if it was this DJ in Cicely's shoes, we would have done the same thing. Cicely, Good job by the way.

I recently had a DJ tell me that he would coordinate EVERYTHING for my reception if I hired him. I almost laughed outloud. Last time I checked knowledge of the lastest hits and what will get great aunt Arleen up and dancing does not make one an experienced event planner :)
